Six Senses in Oman: among the fjords of "Middle Eastern Norway"

Do you prefer to get to Six Senses Zighy Bay on board a motorboat by sea? Or from the top of the mountain driving by an off-road vehicle? Or maybe you are so adventurous as to prefer a paragliding ride with an expert pilot who is part of the Six Senses Zighy Bay staff?

This beautiful resort is located on the northern Musandam peninsula, an Omani enclave in the territory of the United Arab Emirates. In fact this region can be reached with a two-hour drive from Dubai International Airport.

What does it make a stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay really special? First of all, the magnificent location with mountains on one side and a 1.6 km sandy beach in Zighy Bay on the other. The mountain ranges rise up to 2,100 meters and penetrate the Strait of Hormuz creating spectacular fjords, so that the Musandam is nicknamed "Norway of the Middle East".

Secondly, the houses were designed by the architects in the native village style according to the Omani tradition. The 79 villas with private swimming pools and patios, in addition to the larger residences, such as "Beachfront Reserve", were built with natural stone and wood. The interiors are elegant without exaggeration, in a sober but princely style at the same time. The soft colored cushions enliven the welcoming atmosphere, designed to ensure the pleasantness of the stay.

Marhaba means "welcome" in Arabic, and a warm sense of “marhaba” welcomes you to the Six Senses Zighy Bay. You could stay inside the villas without going out, but the long sandy beach offers an indispensable reason to leave the patio and the private pool and experience the sea in the beautiful private bay.

For those who like open air activities,  there are plenty of opportunities for water sports but clear waters of the Gulf of Oman give satisfaction even if you limit yourself to snorkelling. Otherwise you can do hiking or mountain bike routes to climb the mountains and enjoy the view of the fjords.
But if you are travelling with the only purpose of relaxing, I recommend a more comfortable sunset cruise aboard a dhow! Or better yet, indulge in wellness programs at the Six Senses Spa.

If you travel with your children, while you relax, you can count on a beautiful entertainment program based on environmental education. Children will learn to interact with animals (such as the famous Zighy goats living in the bay) and plants present on the farm and organic garden of Six Senses Zighy Bay, learning how these can be used for food or to make organic and sustainable  products like soap.

Finally, a reference to food and wine cannot be missing. Several restaurants available to guests, all offering excellent cuisine that can be enjoyed in very suggestive situations. From a dinner on the beach, to a dinner on top of the mountain, at the Sense on the Edge, under the starry sky with superb views to the bay below. And if you are a wine lover, I suggest you dine at the Wine Cellar, surrounded by an impressive selection of international wines.
But if you're an incurable romantic, it won't be a problem to organize a private dinner, in your villa or on the beach, or a delicious picnic in the mountains to be enjoyed while admiring the scenery.
