A timeless legend in the heart of Madrid

There are places that hold the city’s soul within their walls — where every corridor tells a story, every detail speaks of beauty and memory. In the heart of Madrid, one such place has just been reborn, combining over a century of history with a refined sense of modern luxury.

Built in 1912, this grand palace overlooks the vibrant Paseo del Prado and has long been one of the city’s most elegant landmarks. Today, after a meticulous restoration, it welcomes travelers once again beneath its iconic glass dome: The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Virtuoso member.

Location & why you’ll love it

Built in 1912, the building that now houses The Palace stands as one of Madrid’s most elegant landmarks.

Its location couldn’t be better: the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums are steps away, the Retiro Park unfolds just beyond, and the literary quarter — Barrio de las Letras — surrounds you with cafés, bookshops, and the city’s artistic soul.

If you’re seeking an experience that blends five-star comfort with culture, design, and authenticity, this is it. The recent renovation has enhanced, not erased, its character.

The restoration: where art and memory meet

The restoration is both respectful and visionary. Original features were meticulously recovered — the floral façade, the signature Palace beige accented with terracotta, and the grand glass-and-iron dome by Eduardo Ferrés i Puig.

The project went beyond aesthetics: stained-glass windows under the dome were restored, hidden ornaments were rediscovered, and early 20th-century decorative details brought back to life.

Inside, the redesign by Lázaro Rosa-Violán strikes a perfect balance between classic and contemporary — oak panelling, marble fireplaces, wool rugs, custom furniture, and clever lighting that feels warm and alive.

Rooms, suites & atmosphere

The 470 rooms are bright, serene spaces that feel more like private residences than hotel rooms. Elegant finishes, rich fabrics, and subtle patterns evoke the gardens of the Retiro and Madrid’s natural beauty.

The suites tell their own story: the Royal Suite, for instance, opens with a marble foyer leading into a sunlit oval living room — intimate, welcoming, with private kitchen options and panoramic views over the Fountain of Neptune and the city’s historic streets.

Dining & moments that stay with you

At the heart of the hotel lies La Cúpula Restaurant & Bar, beneath its magnificent stained-glass dome — a setting that feels timeless, ideal for romantic dinners or leisurely brunches.

For a more intimate vibe, the 27 Club (formerly Museo Bar) is steeped in stories: shelves of archives and guest books, sketches and memorabilia, and an unmistakable literary atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a nightcap wrapped in history and sophistication.

If Madrid were a novel, The Palace would be that chapter where the city reveals who it was, who it is, and who it dreams of becoming. Staying here isn’t just about sleeping — it’s about living inside history, walking through elegance, and feeling part of a cultural legacy still very much alive.

For those who travel seeking emotion, beauty, art, and understated luxury, The Palace Madrid is not just a destination — it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave.
